May 14 Hopfgarten
Today we woke up in Munich, crazy! We had a good breakfast consisting of yogurt and granola, cereal, and bread.. Pretty much the same breakfast we get every day. But I’m not complaining, it’s a good variety. We hopped right on the bus to head to Austria. We drove through Bavaria to get there, but I was asleep for the majority of the drive. It’s difficult because I’m so tired, but I also want to take in the view while we’re in the coach. Anyhow, we stopped about half way through the ride for some people to do white water rafting. I opted out of this excursion because it was expensive… and I can go rafting at home… and it seemed like a hassle to get wet, and get back on the bus for a few hours. Therefore, my sister and I just waited and ate lunch while the others rafted. We started to play volleyball and the two guys from South Africa joined us. We ended up playing 2 on 2. It was really fun to get active cause we had been on the bus sitting for so long.
Then we got back on the coach to go to Austria. We stayed in a little rural town, it was so beautiful! They do a lot of outdoor activities there, some of our group members went paragliding. I would have loved to have gone, but it was expensive and I didn’t want to leave my sister. We opted for bike riding through the town. The town is very ‘green;’ they are all about natural products, recycling, up keeping their homes, and making everything look really nice. They also have natural springs all over town with pure drinking water from the mountains. I kept refilling my water bottle, the water tasted so crisp and fresh! We biked around town and headed to the supermarket to pick up some treats. Our tour guide mentioned Mozart chocolate balls, since Mozart is from Austria, they pride themselves in that and make chocolate balls as a tribute. I picked some of those up at the supermarket along with some fresh bread and grapes. We also stumbled upon a local farmers market that reminded me of the farmers markets back at home. It was fun to walk around and see similar things. After our bike ride, we ate the best dinner we’ve had on the tour so far.. chicken, potato salad, green salad, bread, and an apple strudel dessert. Mmmmm
